The Arrival! To Kuala Lumpur November 6th 2007
So after many months of planning (yeah right) no real planning we arrive in Kuala lumpur, after a 12 hour flight and the first thing to hit you is the heat! man it is hot here. Dry humidity is the killer.
We check in only to find we can't until 1pm. So we get lost around K.L, and our first feed is underneath a road junction, petrol fumes everywhere, and a few stray dogs and cats prowel for food. Paid about 20p for some nice noodles so not that bad.
Sights are all ticked off the to do list, the patrons twins towers and the bus tour of the city, also the national momument which was very impressive, but hard t find!
We find a great little outside food place, serving the best fish food, in the center of K.L which was recommend by a local, at a local bar named oasis. We were the only english there but lovely!
Great city, friendly people, good mix of modern and urban life. Still the prison looked like something out of 'Midnight express'
Cameron Highlands.
After leaving the wonders of kurlu lumpur next stop the Cameron Highlands.
The tea plantation was the highlight. Beautiful scenes and miles of tea leaves covered the horizon. A two hour walk to the base of the plantation and a nice cuppa was drunk, before hitch hiking on motorbikes, back though the plantation.
Penang
Georgetown was the next stop, a smaller version of K.L. Next a trip to a small fishing village 40 mins from Georgetown, very quite and small.
Langkwai
Arrive to the beautiful island of Langkwai.
Hot (as usual) the first couple of days spent sunbathing, swimming and eating cheap rice.
Continue to hire scooters to see the island more, including a trip to the waterfall and a very small beach at the tip of the island.
Hire scooters again, and take a trip to the town. To see the golden eagle, which was amazing. Get stuck in a tropical rain storm, escape half the town, but the rain was to hard. Buy raincoats from small street food place. Burn up the highway to discover I am out of gas just manage to get to gas station in time to fill up, then a dash back to our motels.
Next day - The trek!
Return to the waterfall for a trek up the peak 'Chang mat Chung' which is 701 meters. Gruelling to say the least but after a two hour trek reach the sumit for photos and rest. Whilst we are at the peak cloud covers the hills surrounding and make our discent into madness. A quarter of a way down the mountan the heavens open. Take note that at points of the climb up the mountan rope was used, coming down was more tricky! First mistake take a wrong turn. Still we get back on track and after hours and near death experiences we make it to the waterfall and the scooters, no casualties, but a few leeches. One last challenge 25 mintures to get the scooters back before five in the rain (but not as hard)
